Tile Roofs

Tiled Roof Replacement

Most houses have a tiled roof, in concrete interlocking tiles or clay plain tiles. Both last well when they are laid on sound battens and membrane, but over the years tiles crack, fixings rust and the felt underneath gives up, until repairs stop keeping the water out.

Re-tiling strips the old tiles, checks the timbers and lays new membrane, battens and tiles, with the ridge, hips, verges and flashings renewed at the same time. Tiles are chosen to suit the pitch of your roof and, where it matters, to sit well beside the houses next door.

FAQs

Tile Roof Questions

What Is the Difference Between Concrete & Clay Roof Tiles?

Concrete tiles are hard wearing, come in many interlocking profiles and are usually the more economical choice. Clay tiles have a traditional look, keep their colour well and suit older houses and conservation streets. Both last well when laid on sound battens and membrane.

Can Just One Side of My Roof Be Re-Tiled?

Yes, if the other slopes are in good condition. A single slope can be stripped and re-tiled, with the tiles matched as closely as possible to the rest of the roof.

Can You Match My Existing Roof Tiles?

In most cases. Concrete and clay tiles come in a wide range of profiles and colours, and replacements are chosen to sit as closely as possible with what is already on the roof.

Does Re-Tiling Include New Battens & Felt?

Yes. Re-tiling replaces the membrane and battens under the tiles as well as the tiles themselves, because those layers are what keep the roof dry if a tile ever moves.

What Affects the Cost of Re-Tiling a Roof?

The size and pitch of the roof, the tiles you choose, the number of hips, valleys and dormers, the state of the timbers and the scaffolding needed. The quote is put together after the roof has been surveyed.
