Roof Replacement in Leeds

There comes a point where repairing a roof stops making sense. When the felt has perished, the battens are soft or tiles are slipping across every slope, a new roof deals with all of it in one go instead of paying for repair after repair.

A re-roof means stripping the old covering back to the rafters, checking the timbers, then laying new breathable membrane, new battens and new tiles or slates. Ridges, hips, verges and flashings are renewed at the same time, so the whole roof starts again together.

Choose Your New Roof Covering

Both coverings are laid on new battens and membrane. The right one depends on your home, your street and your budget.

FAQs

New Roof Questions

How Do I Know When I Need a New Roof?

Repeated leaks in different places, sagging between rafters, felt that has turned brittle or torn, and tiles slipping across several slopes all point to a roof near the end of its life. A survey of the roof and the loft shows whether a re-roof is the better value.

What Is the Difference Between a Tiled Roof & a Slate Roof?

Concrete and clay tiles are hard wearing, come in many profiles and colours, and usually cost less to lay. Natural slate is thinner, lighter in look and very long lasting, and it suits older and period houses. Both are laid on new battens and membrane.

Will the Old Battens & Felt Be Replaced?

Yes. A full re-roof replaces the membrane and battens as well as the tiles or slates, together with the ridges, hips, verges and flashings, so every layer that keeps the weather out is new.

Do I Need Planning Permission for a New Roof?

Replacing a roof like for like does not usually need planning permission. Listed buildings, conservation areas and changes to the shape or height of the roof can, so check with your local council if any of those apply.

What Affects the Cost of a New Roof?

The size and pitch of the roof, the covering you choose, the condition of the timbers, chimneys and other details, and the scaffolding and access needed. The quote is put together after the roof has been surveyed.
